The Grove
Chandler's Cross, Hertfordshire. A five-star country estate with its own Kyle Phillips championship course, a spa and five restaurants, close to Heathrow and the M25.
The Grove is a five-star hotel and golf resort at Chandler’s Cross in Hertfordshire, on a 300-acre estate that was once the home of the Earls of Clarendon. It sits close to Heathrow and the M25 and is about 18 miles from central London, according to the resort.
Rooms and suites are split between the 18th-century Mansion and a contemporary West Wing. Sequoia Spa has a 22-metre pool with black mosaic tiling and a whirlpool, and the estate has five restaurants, including Madhu’s for Indian cuisine, The Stables for British classics and The Glasshouse with live-cooking stations. Outdoor pursuits include archery and axe throwing, and Anouska’s Kids Club provides Ofsted-registered childcare, which may suit family or mixed groups.
Golf is on site. The championship course was designed by Kyle Phillips, the architect behind Kingsbarns, and opened in 2003. It is a par 72 of around 7,150 yards from the back tees, described as a quintessentially English parkland design with undulating terrain, doglegs, water hazards and distinctive square greens. It hosted the 2006 WGC-American Express Championship, won by Tiger Woods, and the resort says it also staged the British Masters in 2016.
For rounds beyond The Grove’s own course, tee times at private clubs need to be arranged in advance, and Golf Tours London can build them into a bespoke itinerary and organise transport between the hotel and the courses.
