Stoke Park
Stoke Poges, Buckinghamshire. A Wyatt mansion in Capability Brown parkland with a 27-hole Harry Colt course, the setting for Goldfinger's golf match and home to the Boodles Tennis Championships.
Stoke Park is a historic golf estate at Stoke Poges in Buckinghamshire, less than 20 minutes from Heathrow. The Georgian mansion was designed by James Wyatt and stands in parkland shaped by Capability Brown and Humphry Repton, and Golf Illustrated once said the course would take a great deal of beating anywhere within thirty miles of London.
Golf is on site. Harry Colt designed the 27-hole championship course in 1908, and it opened in July 1909. The three loops combine into a par 70 composite, with yardages from about 5,800 to 6,850 depending on the tees. Top100GolfCourses ranks it 71st in England, and its 7th hole is said to have inspired the 16th at Augusta National. The course has hosted tournaments since 1928, and a new golf academy has recently opened.
The estate is also well known on screen, with Stoke Park appearing in Goldfinger, where Bond plays a famous golf match, as well as Tomorrow Never Dies and Bridget Jones’s Diary. The parkland is Grade II listed on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens, and the Boodles Tennis Championships have also been held here since 2002, one of the highlights of the British summer social season.
