Worplesdon Golf Club
Woking, Surrey. An Abercromby heathland classic with Willie Park Jr greens, one of Surrey's famous three Ws and home of the Worplesdon Mixed Foursomes.
Worplesdon Golf Club is a classic Surrey heathland course at Heath House Road near Woking, about 34 miles south-west of central London. Founded in 1908, it is one of Surrey’s famous three Ws, alongside Woking and West Hill, and is ranked 63rd in Golf Monthly’s Top 100 courses in Great Britain and Ireland for 2025/26.
The layout was set out by J.F. Abercromby, with Willie Park Jr, creator of the Old Course at Sunningdale, constructing the greens and bunkers, and it remains much as Abercromby designed it. The par 71 course winds through wooded heathland of heather and Scots pines, with natural contours, dog-legged holes and 80 bunkers that have recently been fully renovated. The 10th is the signature hole, a delightful par three played over Bridley Pond, particularly attractive when the rhododendrons are in bloom, and described by Golf Monthly as more Augusta than Surrey.
The club has a proud amateur history. The Worplesdon Mixed Foursomes, founded in 1921, attracted many of the best amateurs in the country, and Joyce Wethered, who won it eight times, was the club’s Lady Captain in 1922 and later its President. The Prince of Wales was Captain in 1933.
