Pennyhill Park is a five-star country house hotel set in 120 acres of parkland at Bagshot in Surrey, and one of the most relaxed and comfortable bases for golf in the south of England. The ivy-clad house, begun in 1849, has 124 individually designed bedrooms and suites, many with generous bathrooms that are a welcome sight after a long day on the course.
There is no golf course at the hotel itself; however, Pennyhill Park sits at the heart of the Surrey and Berkshire heathland belt, with Sunningdale around five miles away and The Berkshire, Swinley Forest, Walton Heath, West Hill, St George’s Hill, Woking and Hankley Common all within reach. Away from the fairways, the 45,000 square foot spa is award-winning, with indoor and outdoor pools and more than 20 treatments, so non-golfing partners and friends are well looked after. Dining is a highlight in its own right: Latymer holds a Michelin star and five AA Rosettes, while Hillfield offers relaxed farm-to-fork cooking.
The location is equally practical. Heathrow is around 30 minutes by road and Gatwick about an hour, the M3 and M25 are both close by, and London Waterloo is roughly 40 minutes by train from nearby Sunningdale station.
