The Royal Berkshire is a four-star country house hotel set in 15 acres of gardens at Sunninghill on the edge of Ascot in Berkshire. Built in 1705 as a Queen Anne mansion for the daughter of Prime Minister Sir Robert Walpole, it has been a hotel since 1971 and is now part of the Exclusive Collection, with around 65 rooms and suites, many overlooking the gardens.
There is no golf course at the hotel, but it sits among some of the best heathland golf in England. The Berkshire, Sunningdale, Swinley Forest and St George’s Hill are all described by the Exclusive Collection as close by, which makes the hotel a convenient base for playing several of them in a single trip. Heathrow is around 15 minutes away by car, and Ascot station is a five-minute taxi ride with trains to London Waterloo in around 50 minutes. Ascot Racecourse is about a mile and a half away, and the M3 and M25 are both close by.
